GLTron

This 3D freeware game from the Switzerland is inspired by the movie TRON, the 1982 matrix-style cyberpunk movie.

The combat takes place in a rectangular arena. You ride futuristic bike, a «lightcycle». The speed of lightcycle is constant; you can’t increase or decrease it. You can’t even stop. Lightcycles are capable of turning at 90 degree angles only. Every bike leaves a permanent impassable trail behind. Everyone who runs into that trail will be smashed to death. The last player alive wins.

If you don’t like the default view of GLTron, you can change it using artpacks available from its homepage. Some of them are really nice in an ugly sort of way.

You play against 1 to 3 opponents either human or computer. Network multiplay is not supported (yet) so you have to play in spilt-screen mode or against the computer. The AI is quite smart, but unfortunately it doesn’t play dirty and makes no mistakes. Bots are for training only, they are boring. The AI strategy is to survive as long as possible while human strategy is to annihilate the enemy. Playing dirty tricks on а human opponent is the real pleasure. Invite a friend to join you in smashing each other’s lightcycles.
